September Meeting Minutes

September's meeting at Full Sail was very productive.  Thanks to Bobby for securing the new space.

Desmond Hunt started off with a presentation on traveling with gear.  Most important points:
  • Keep irreplaceable items with you in carry on
  • Keep an itemized list of all your gear with you (including model and serial numbers)
  • Pack carry on items for easy access in case you need to take them out for screening.

Next, Brian introduced the new web site and demonstrated how to update your Member Profile info.

Also announced was the upcoming Horror Film Festival for October's meeting (see details in a previous post), as well as a lighting workshop scheduled for October's meeting (details to follow)

Then, Steve Graham of Cinemedia gave a presentation on using the Glidecam 4000 and invited members to demo the gear he uses.

Following the presentation, an excerpt from a video on interview lighting was shown.  For those of you that are interested, the item can be found at the following link:

PVCF Website is Up and Running!!

Well, it took some time, but the new website is up, running and linked to this Blog and the Forum.  Take some time to familiarize yourself with the new site.  For Business Professional members, review the member directory and check out your listing.  Not all listings are up and running at this time, but I will try to get all the listings up in the next week or so.

To update or create your member profile with video, go to the pvcf.org website.  Click on I AM A VIDEOGRAPHER.  Log in to the MEMBERS ONLY section.  (email me at pvcfadmin@gmail.com if you need the log in info.)  Go to MEMBER PROFILES.  Click on UPDATE MEMBER PROFILE and follow the instructions on the form.  You should upload your demo video to Vimeo, Brightcove or YouTube before doing this so you will have the link info when filling out the form.  Your updated or new profile should be posted within a few days.  Keep in mind that only BUSINESS PROFESSIONAL MEMBERS (those with a business license) will receive a listing in the MEMBER DIRECTORY, but all members will be listed in the general Member Profiles section in the Members Only area.

Also, please note that we will be limiting the amount of email to members in the future.  All major notices will be posted to either the Blog or Forum, whichever is more appropriate.  Meeting notices will always be posted to this Blog.

Membership Director needed

PVCF is in need of a Membership Director.  If you are interested in the position, please let us know so we can fill it soon.  Although the duties are relatively minimal, we anticipate an influx of new members over the upcoming year as we plan on promoting several new initiatives.  Description of the position is as follows:

Duties of the Membership Director shall include, maintaining a data base of contact information of all members. Other duties include solicitation prospects for membership, name tags for meeting's, accepting applications for new or renewal of membership, maintaining a data base of guests who attend meeting's.

Please leave a comment if you'd like to be considered for the position.

SEPTEMBER MEETING AGENDA

We've got a great meeting planned for September!

We finally got a room at Full Sail thanks to some persistent work by Bobby.  He has also set up a workshop training session for that night which will focus on the Interview, including camera, audio and lighting set up.

Also planned is the unveiling of the new PVCF website which boasts some really cool features for Business Professional members that will add a ton of value to the site.  There's still a few things to finish, but it's about 95% done.  It should go live by Tuesday or Wednesday of that week.

We are still in need of your video clips which will be featured in the new PVCF promo video, currently in the works.  Please bring a miniDV tape, .mov/.avi file on disc, or a DVD of your best 1 minute clip to the meeting.  This is a great opportunity to have some of your work showcased so don't miss out on the opportunity!

Again, don't forget to check out the forum and post -- it's a great way to network for the 30 days when we don't see each other.

New PVCF Forum is up and Running!

The PVCF Forum is now up and running!  Why not stop by and get in on the discussion?  The more our members participate and network on the forum, the stronger our organization will become.

The best way to add value to our organization is by sharing our knowledge and experience with each other, so if you haven't posted to our board yet, now's your chance.

If you are an experienced videographer, why not start a new topic in one of the forums?  Or post a link to a video you've just finished.  Or ask a question of your peers.

If you are new to videography, there's a wealth of knowledge to be tapped from our seasoned veterans, so why not ask  something you've been wondering about.  This is the place to do it.

Monthly meetings are just not enough to build a strong organization, so let's keep the networking and learning going throughout the month.  Let's make this new forum the first big step to raising the bar on Professional Videography in Central Florida.

Best Wishes,

Brian

New PVCF Logo

PVCF VP Julie has put together several new logo designs as a potential replacement for the old PVCF Logo.  Please take a look and leave feedback below using the comments.  She has intentionally left them in grayscale for the time being, however once a final design is approved, it will have new colors added to coordinate with the new website and graphics.
